Jacob Anderson and Sam Reid Sink Their Teeth Into Interview With the Vampire
We spoke with Jacob Anderson and Sam Reid about crafting their characters in the tv series Interview With the Vampire.
In talking about season two Jacob shared how he continued to find the differences between Louis in flashbacks and the retelling of time over the course of several decades agains the present day where he shares his stories with Daniel Molloy. In present day he felt like Louis would have partly modeled the way he speaks after James Baldwin and so studied his intonations of speech to incorporate this into the character.
Sam Reid found himself questioning how to play Lestat when he appears as a conjured image in Louis’ mind, and looked at why Louis would need to envisage him in any given scene to find this. He also spoke to Lestat’s choice to return to Paris when Louis and Claudia are on trial from the other vampires at the theater, he felt that it was a case of needing to show up for the ones he loves if there’s a chance that they might die. Sam and Jacob were very specific about their characters dynamic with each other throughout these scenes, not even making full eye contact until later on to allow it to have a much bigger impact.
When Louis finds out that Lestat was the one to save him from being punished to death years later in the storylines present this set the stage for the two of them to reunite their characters together once again. They spoke to setting the scene for this reconciliation where several wounds from their past still exist, but where they are able to put some pieces behind themselves at the same time.
