Ike Barinholtz on Bringing the Laughs to The Studio
Ike Barinholtz said yes immediately to playing Sal Saperstein in the AppleTV+ series The Studio when Seth Rogen first pitched the idea, and this was before scripts were even in place! He knew whatever Seth and Evan Goldberg created would be great, and he wasn’t wrong.
In the satirizing series which delves into the film industry he noted immediately how in another version of the story his character Sal could have resented his friend and colleague Matt (played by Rogen) getting promoted to studio head above him, but he immediatley loved that Sal was supportive and dove straight into the weeds.
One of the shows most cinematic episodes sees Ike’s character Sal and Matt visit a film shoot where the movie within the show is being filmed within one take and at the same time the episode is crafted in the same style. Although there was a little bit of movie magic in making this happen as they broke everything down into four parts to accomplish filming it. He really enjoyed the chance to work in this way but did note the level of details to get right and the pressure everyone felt to not make mistakes along the way.
Within the core cast he also gets to work closely with Kathryn Hahn and Chase Sui Wonders noting the wonderful aspect of everyone bringing something different to the table.
