Charlotte Ritchie on the Final Season of You
Charlotte Ritchie recently said goodbye in the final season of the Netflix series You and her character Kate. Upon joining the show last season when Joe Goldberg found himself in London she immediately thought of Kate as someone who has always been more adult like and closed off because of her upbringing. This season she had the opportunity to explore Kate’s family life even further through meeting her siblings including twin half sisters played by Anna Camp.
When we step into the first episodes Kate appears to be happy in her life with Joe having become a little more vulnerable and open to enjoying life, even running late because she was being shown cat pictures by her driver much to her delight. However this bliss quickly comes crashing down for her as she learns more of the truth about Joe’s past and the atrocities he has committed. When asked if Kate had truly believed she knew everything Charlotte shared that she felt Kate always knew on some level but wasn’t ready to confront it, and probably couldn’t have imagined the lengths to which Joe had gone with his actions.
A central pull for Kate becomes Joe’s son Henry who has come to live with the couple and this became a large driving force for her character in these final episodes. Kate very much enjoys being a parent but more importanbtly wants to be able to protect Henry.
In her final scenes she had the opportunity to come face to face to some of Joe’s other women including Bronte, Marianne and Nadia and found these scenes invigorating to share with her scene partners in doing so. It also bought home the true reality and allowed Kate to find more peace within herself after trying to outrun her own personal guilt for so many years.
