Noomi Rapace on Preparing to Be An Astronaut for Constellation

We were thrilled to be joined by Noomi Rapace to talk about the intimacies and complexities of playing a mother in a sci-fi environment for the Apple TV+ series Constellation. She had an immediate connection to Jo, as the role was specifically written for her, which allowed her to portray the two versions of the character with depth and authenticity. Noomi drew from her experiences as a mother to give a genuine depiction of the mother-daughter relationship in the show and discussed her commitment to ensuring the comfort of the younger actors on set.

Additionally, Noomi detailed the rigorous physical preparation required for scenes set in space, including working with wires, consulting astronauts for realism, and studying their movements aboard the ISS via YouTube livestreams. Her research led her to delve into the thematic exploration of the limitations of memory and the human body within the series, as well as connect these ideas to her own life. Noomi noted the complexity of her character and the storylines, and emphasized the importance of staying organized to effectively balance the demands of her role with the narrative of the series.
