Christina Ricci on Misty in Yellowjackets

Christina Ricci joined us to talk about her performance on the hit show Yellowjackets. She’s never shied away from the characters complexities and layers and found the most reason season continued to challenge her in all sorts of new ways. She noted that she is still learning the art form of television acting and the fact that you continue to be presented with new details about your character but it’s also part of the challenge she enjoys.

She had always felt that Misty would be likely to push back on the way the group excludes and talks to her and was thrilled to have the opportunity to explore this side of her in season three. Since Natalie had been the person Misty felt closest to, her death had a huge impact on her going into this season. Christina discussed Misty trying to process her emotions surrounding this as someone who doesn’t have proper coping mechanisms and tools to do so. This led to her trying to embody parts of her persona but finding it to be a less than natural fit. In seeing Misty retaliate against Shauna and be the one to uncover her daughters ties to some of what is uncovered, she felt it was very clear to her straight away that her character was incredibly calculated throughout this. Part of Misty’s persona is her love of true crime and Christina also spoke to how this shaped the way she was investigating things close to the Yellowjackets this season as well as part of how she relates to Walter.

Despite the challenges that come with taking on the role within a television series it’s one that she has continued to thrive upon.

Q&A on the Showtime series Yellowjackets with actor Christina Ricci. Moderated by Mara Webster, In Creative Company.

Part survival epic, part psychological horror and part coming-of-age drama, this is the story of a team of wildly talented high school girls' soccer players who survive a plane crash deep in the remote northern wilderness. The series chronicles their descent from a complicated but thriving team to savage clans, while also tracking the lives they’ve attempted to piece back together 25 years later. What began in the wilderness is far from over.
