In a recent interview, actor Nick Mohammed shared his insights into his character, Michael, from the new HBO series War. Known for his sharp humor and relatable quirks, Michael stands out as a stickler for rules and a bit of an office nerd within the high-pressure environment of the Taylor & Byrne law firm.

During the discussion, Mohammed explained how he distinguished Michael's personality from the rest of the cast, emphasizing the importance of creating a unique presence within the team. “I made some rules for Michael about who liked him and who didn’t, and the fact that he’s probably quite frustrated that he’s not more senior than he is,” he noted, highlighting how this characterization drives the dynamic interactions in the office. “It’s not always the things you’re doing, it’s sometimes the things you’re not doing that convey hierarchy and status,” Mohammed remarked, illustrating how body language plays a vital role in expressing Michael’s emotional state.

One moment discussed was a scene where Michael tries to charm a director, only to reveal his lack of preparation, a characteristic that perfectly encapsulates his awkwardness. “He’s trying to be a little charming, but he quickly fails because he doesn’t really have the skill set to pass it off,” Mohammed explained. This blend of humor amid serious themes resonates throughout the series, offering viewers a balance of tension and levity.

Reflecting on his experience being reunited with Celebrity Traitors castmate Celia Imrie, Mohammed spoke enthusiastically about the dynamic they shared. “Celia brings such a warmth and delight to the set,” he said. He fondly recalls one particular scene in which Imrie’s character interacts with Michael in a way that added unexpected depth and humor. “She made it feel effortless, and her energy is so infectious; it encourages everyone around her to elevate their game.” He noted that Celebrity Traitors was airing as they were filming War, and could share their joy at the reactions as a result.

As the discussion wrapped up, Mohammed expressed his excitement for the upcoming second season, revealing that filming back-to-back seasons has allowed him to deepen his understanding of Michael’s character. “It’s a real privilege to continue this journey,” he said.
