In our new interview, Chicago Fire actor Joe Miñoso opened up about saying good goodbye to Cruz after an incredible 15 year journey with the character.
According to Miñoso, the conclusion of his storyline was heavily considered sharing, “We were really interested in seeing how we can celebrate who this character has been for all these years, and how we can send him off in a way, that the audience, will feel that catharsis.” He’s especially excited now that the episode is out so audiences can see what they have always had in mind.

Originally the last scene he was to film was the group scene in dress blues, but scheduling and location availabilities led to a change in the schedule he believes to be a “twist of fate.” Ultimately it ended up being the emotional one-one-one conversation with Taylor Kinney. “Things got switched around a bunch, and it just so happened that that became…the last scene.” He noted that the emotions in the scene were very real because like their characters, they have worked side by side for years.
As far as the opportunity to come back as a guest star, Miñoso is game. “I mean, there's no question that he, me, wants to pop back in as often as possible. I love that place, and will forever be available to them.”
